At one time I thought that I could not make a difference by going on a mission trip because I'm not a Pastor, I'm not trained in the medical field, I don't recite scripture, I don't speak several languages, I can’t build a house, etc. I thought that sending money would be enough. Regular people who had been on such trips encouraged me to go and see for myself. They knew. They knew that it would do more for me than for the people we visited and ministered to. They were right. If you are being convicted by the Holy Spirit to go on a mission trip, make it happen. Charles and I were so fortunate to stay with Dave & Cristi Clemmer. The home they rent is central to their work/serving locations with buses and taxis right outside their door. They will pick you up at the airport with their family taxi owner/driver, feed you fresh delicious Peruvian meals, provide a comfortable bed, have electricity, warm water and a washer for your clothes. The weather in Arequipa, Peru is perfect year round (71-73 degrees and not humid). The scenery is stunning right outside their back door. There are volcanoes, mountain ranges and clear fresh streams around the city. Dave & Cristi have a small family organization that is doing what the bible tells us to do. James 1:27 says, “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.” The Clemmer’s are able to do this with the support of the people who meet them, learn what they do, and are moved by their passion to help widows and orphans, feed the hungry, and find the lost. Their home can take singles, couples and small groups. If anyone would like to learn more, Charles and I would be glad to sit with you and talk about what we've seen and experienced. It really makes a difference when you go and meet the children you've been sending money to for a few years and put names with faces and recognize faces and stories from photos and videos.
